Elderly Man Dies After Being Hit By Car

An 81-year-old man died after being struck by a car as he was crossing the street in Augusta.

Centralmaine.com reports the accident happened just after 6:00 Saturday night while the man was crossing Northern Avenue. Police say he was hit while in the crosswalk in front of the St. Augustine Catholic Church, at the intersection with Kendall Street. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The man's name hasn't been released, pending notification of family.

The vehicle, a Ford Taurus, was driven by 55-year-old Andrew Bilodeau of Augusta. Police say he's listed as a transient and suffered no injuries in the accident. Augusta Police continue to investigate the incident
