There's really nothing like riding aboard a train, especially through the countryside and woods of our great state. The Downeast Scenic Railroad in Ellsworth is one treasure in our own backyard that many overlook when searching for entertainment for the family in the spring, summer and fall. For a 90 full minutes you'll take in the beauty and nature of some of the best our state has to offer.

The Downeast Scenic Railroad has been around a few years. It uses a 1948 General Electric 70 ton 600 horsepower Diesel-Electric Engine #54, or a 1950 ALCO S-4 1000 horsepower Engine # 1055, to pull passengers around in classic cars and even an open-air car for those that enjoy the fresh breeze in your face.

Take a moment and watch the video, and please visit their website for more information and to make reservations: Downeast Scenic Railroad. They'll get the engines fired up on Memorial day weekend, so don't miss your chance to jump on board for the first ride of the season.
