Downeast Toyota has gone to the dogs today, with a donation drive and lots of doggy fun, all to benefit the Bangor Humane Society.

Folks are encouraged to stop by the Wilson Street car dealership today with donations of dry or canned pet food (including cat food), new-and-gently-used blankets, toys, sheets, and towels, as well as new-or-gently-used pet beds, peanut butter, squeeze cheese, bleach, rubber gloves, and windex. All the donations will be given to the Bangor Humane Society to help them care for the shelter animals.

And when you drop by, be sure to bring your pooch along with you. There will be plenty of fun for the dogs (and their humans), as well. For the pups, there will be a photo booth, a ball pit, doggy massage, a prize treat wheel, a chance to win a Loyal Biscuit gift basket, and more. And for the two-legged attendees, a chance to win a full-vehicle detail from Downeast Toyota. The picture (above) shows my dog Gifford, ready to go in my Toyota Camry.

There are a few safety concerns to keep in mind today, like keeping your dog on a leash. If you don't have one, there will be some available to rent. (with the proceeds to benefit the Bangor Humane Society) Paper towels, cleaning products, and waste bags will be available to deal with any 'accidents.'  And, while the humans are encouraged to look around at the selection of vehicles, they're asked to keep the doggy paws at a safe distance.

The Downeast Doggy Drive runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today, on Wilson Street in Brewer.
