Down East Credit Union customers are being urged to check their accounts for a data breach that has caused some unauthorized withdrawals.

Belfast Police report the breach seems to be centered at the local branch on Lincolnville Avenue, and most appear to have affected people who used that ATM over the weekend. Officials say it appears a 'skimming device' was illegally installed on the ATM, to read customers' card information. Most of the unauthorized withdrawals seem to be coming from New York, and ranged from $100 withdrawals to accounts being wiped out.

Anyone who finds anything out of place in their account is urged to call the number on the back of their debit/credit card and cancel the card immediately.
