When a horror series gets accolades from Stephen King, you know it has to be great. And the new Netflix original series 'Stranger Things' delivers!

Jim and I are hooked on the show that tells the story of a town struggling to figure out what happened to a young boy who's gone missing. Winona Ryder gives an awesome performance as the boy's crazed and desperate mother, and David Harbour is convincing as a bored, burnt-out Sheriff who begins to realize that there's more going on than just a runaway child.

Horror master Stephen King has thrown his support behind the new show, saying on Twitter that it's like 'watching Stephen King's greatest hits. I mean that in a good way!' And why wouldn't he? The movie makes several references to his classic books and films, including a guard who's reading a vintage copy of 'Cujo,' with a young King's picture on the back jacket.

The series has nuances of several of King's works, including 'The Body,' (which was made into the movie 'Stand By Me,') 'Firestarter,' and 'The Mist.' As a matter of fact, the Duffer Brothers, who created the series, pay homage to many classic films from the 1980's, including 'Poltergeist,' 'The Frighteners,' 'E.T.' and even 'Silkwood!' (Ryder's haircut...I kid you not)

Honestly, the only downside we've found to this engaging show from Netflix is that there are only 8 episodes, currently. We're hoping the creators don't wait too long before they send out another set of shows, because we'll be done binge-watching these by Saturday night. And we'll be desperate for more!

If you haven't seen 'Stranger Things' yet, I encourage you to check it out over the weekend. You'll find yourself glued to the TV until reality invades your space and forces you to find other things to do. In other words, like a classic Stephen King novel, you won't be able to tear yourself away until you reach the end. And then you'll want to go back to the beginning and start it all over again!
