Two dogs were saved from a burning car outside the Waterboro Hannaford Wednesday evening, the York County Sheriff's Office said.

The sheriff's office said a passerby noticed the burning car and went inside the store to alert employees. Captain Dan Bean of the York County Sheriff’s Office overheard the man. Bean went outside and contained the fire until Waterboro Fire and Rescue arrived.

Bean said the two dogs, Dyna and Bruno, appeared to be uninjured.

The sheriff's office did not say what caused the car to catch fire.
