Divers in Waterville Looking for Homicide Evidence

Shea (Kennebec County Jail)

The Maine State Police dive team is in the icy Kennebec River today, looking for evidence in connection with a Vassalboro homicide two weeks ago. It’s part of the investigation into the death of Thomas Namer of Waterville.

Namer’s body was found in an abandoned mobile home in Vassalboro. Courtney Shea, who lived in the house next door with his mother, reported to police that he’d found the body. He was retained over that weekend by police on a probation violation charge and was then charged with Namer’s murder on the following Monday.

Shea now claims that Namer, who he had known for some time, made sexual advances and so Shea killed him. The medical examiner’s office confirmed that Namer died as the result of several stab wounds.

Divers today are concentrating near the Two Cent Walking Bridge that connects Waterville and Winslow. A dozen divers began the search this morning.

Detectives say they have information that Shea may have been seen on or near the bridge on November 21st between the hours of 7 and 11pm. Anyone who may have seen Shea in that area is asked to call the State Police in Augusta at 624-7076.
