Police say a teenager who ran a stop sign and caused a collision with another vehicle may have been distracted by an electronic device.

Captain Scott Stewart said in a post on the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department's Facebook page that the accident happened just after 10:00 Wednesday night at the intersection of Depot Road and Pequawket Trail.  A car driven by a 16-year-old female from Parsonsfield failed to stop for the stop sign at the end of Depot Road. Her Pontiac Sunfire traveled into the intersection where it was hit by a pickup truck driven by 60-year-old Raymond McKenney of Westbrook, who was traveling east on Pequawket Trail. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.

McKenney suffered only minor injuries. A LifeFlight helicopter was called for the teen, but weather prevented them from responding. She was transported to Maine Medical Center by Standish Rescue, where she was treated and released.

Police say it's possible she may have been distracted by an electronic device, which caused her to miss the stop sign. The case remains under investigation.
