A Penobscot County Deputy's cruiser ended up on a snowbank after colliding with a dirt bike.

Chief Deputy William Birch said the incident happened at around 1:30 Tuesday afternoon on the Pattagumpus Road in Medway. Corporal Daren Mason's cruiser was approached by an ATV and off-road dirt bike, when he observed violations. Mason turned his cruiser around and tried to get the rider of the bike to pull over.

While trying to conduct the traffic stop, the dirt bike decelerated abruptly, causing Corporal Mason to take evasive action. The dirt bike collided with the passenger side of the Sheriff's vehicle, which struck a frozen snow bank and came to rest on top of it.

The operator of the dirt bike, whose name has not been released, received minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. Corporal Mason was not hurt in the crash.

This accident remains under investigation.
