Deer hunters have been waiting for this day for months!  Maine's deer hunting season is finally here!

Saturday was the official opening day for Maine residents with firearm deer hunting permits, but today marks the day where everyone can participate, including those from out of state. Deer hunting here in Maine is definitely a family sport that has passed through the generations!

"Firearms season" for hunting deer got started at sunrise this morning and will last until sundown on Saturday, November 28th. Wildlife officials have issued almost 9000 less permits then they did last year, with hopes that the deer population will rebound from last year's very harsh winter here in Maine. According to the officials, Maine's deer population currently stands at approximately 210,000.
