Darius Rucker has released a brand-new song, "If I Told You," expected to be the first single from what will be his fifth solo country album. The tune finds the singer asking someone to love him in spite of his faults.

"If I told you all the stupid things I’ve done / I blamed on being young / But I was old enough to know, I know," Rucker sings in the song's chorus. "If I told you the mess that I can be when there's no one there to see / Could you look the other way? / Could you love me anyway?"

Ross Copperman, Jon Nite and Shane McAnally penned "If I Told You," and although Rucker did not write the song, he says, "[A]s a songwriter, I would not change a line, as it moves me to want to not only sing along, but also as a songwriter, it inspires a new perspective.”

"If I Told You" is Rucker's first time working with Copperman, Nite and McAnally. Copperman also produced the project.

“What I love about each album is the opportunity to expand on what we’ve done in the past — to push myself and the band creatively, vocally and lyrically,” Rucker explains. “At the end of the day, I’m a fan of great stories and great songs ... With "If I Told You," I can’t wait to share in that vulnerability with the fans from the stage night after night.”

Rucker released his newest album, Southern Style, in 2015, but the artist says he's "always writing for the next record."

“I will take a break sometime, but not right now; I don’t feel like it right now," he tells The Boot. "I’m just having fun putting out records and touring, so it’s working.”

Rucker is on the road this summer, on his Good for a Good Time TourDan + Shay and Michael Ray are joining Rucker on the road. "If I Told You" is available for download on iTunes.
