A Cushing man shot and killed himself after shooting and injuring his ex-girlfriend and firing on a State Police Trooper.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 34-year-old Shane Prior of Cushing shot his ex-girlfriend, 30-year-old Michelle Creamer, in the arm outside a home on Somerville Road where she was staying. She was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital for her non-life threatening injury.

Troopers responding to her domestic violence shooting found Prior driving his pickup truck away from the scene and chased him for about 3 miles onto Route 32 in Jefferson. At that point, Prior stopped the vehicle and fired a shot at a trooper, who returned fire. Prior then shot himself in the head inside his truck.

The Trooper, Sergeant Jason Madore, wasn't hurt and has been placed on paid administrative leave while the Attorney General's office investigates. This is standard procedure in a police-involved shooting in Maine. An autopsy will be conducted on Prior's body at the State Medical Examiner's Office.
