Crews worked Tuesday morning to put up a 35-foot balsam fir tree in the middle of West Market Square in Bangor that will serve as the backdrop for the city's Festival of Lights Parade this Saturday, Dec. 3.

The tree, which was cut last week in Levant, will be lit at the conclusion of the parade, which begins at 4:30 p.m.

Dan Sprague, the co-owner of Sprague's Nursery & Garden Center in Bangor, was among those overseeing the tree's raising in the city's downtown. Sprague's has been donating a tree to the city for more than 20 years.

The hour-long effort involved crews from Emera, which donated a truck to set the tree in place, and City of Bangor Public Works, which installed the tree and will adorn it with lights.
