Investigators are searching for the cause of a Saturday explosion at an unmanned sewage pump station on South Main Street in Brewer.

Police say the pump station was significantly damaged in the afternoon explosion in the vicinity of South Brewer Drive. No one was injured.

Officials have no evidence indicating that the blast was an intentional act.

Soil and air samples have been taken in an effort to pinpoint a definitive cause of the explosion. Officials say a potential cause of the explosion could be from the ignition of vapors from a flammable liquid -- such as gasoline -- introduced into the sewer system.

The Brewer Police Department is asking anyone with information about recent spills of flammable liquids that entered the sewer system (i.e. through a floor drain) in the area to call 989-7001.
