Singer-songwriter and Maine native Kalie Shorr performed and talked about her home state Monday on Taste of Country Nights.

Shorr, who grew up in Portland, told TOCN host Sam Alex that she went to the same high school as actress Anna Kendrick.

"Well, everybody said she was super-sweet. I mean at that point she had already been nominated for a Tony Award, so it was interesting that she went to public school," Shorr said. "She took all the same drama classes, and was in the same drama program as I was, so my drama teacher always had really nice stuff to say about her."

Shorr, 21, and Kendrick, 30, both attended Deering High School.

When Alex asked Shorr if she and Kendrick were the two most famous people from Maine, Shorr mentioned actor Patrick Dempsey and horror author Stephen King.

"Stephen King has a big old creepy house in Bangor, Maine," she said. "There's like this big black iron fence and like spiders all over the place."

Shorr, who moved to Nashville to pursue a music career after high school, performed "Fight Like a Girl" from The Y2k Mixtape, her new EP.

The singer began filming performances of cover songs and posting them on YouTube when she was 13.

Since then, she has picked up more than 11,000 subscribers and her videos have been viewed more than 1.6 million times.

Shorr's videos even caught the eye of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who invited her to open for the Backstreet Boys at his birthday party in March 2012.
