Corinna Elementary School was briefly placed on a soft lockdown at about noon, school officials said Monday.

According to school superintendent Mike Hammer, at the request of Maine State Police, students were kept inside the building and no one was allowed to enter or leave.

A state police dispatcher told the Bangor Daily News that the lockdown was part of “a health and safety check.” The dispatcher declined to comment further on the lowdown.

The lockdown ended shortly after 2 p.m., after a suicidal man was taken into protective custody, according to the Kennebec Journal.
