What are you doing on Saturday? I hope you'll join me for Sebasticook Valley Health's Second Annual Community Health Fair. If there's one thing I've learned as I've gotten older, it's that we all have to be proactive about good health. This fair will offer chances to do just that!

Using the theme "Pathways to Better Care," this year's fair will feature a flu shot clinic, a drug take-back area, health information and screenings, and fun activities for everyone! Get a jump on flu season by getting your vaccination early. Shots  are $22 each or free if you show your medicare card and will be given to folks 18 and over. Remember to wear a short-sleeved shirt! The drug take-back area is your chance to safely dispose of expired or unused drugs from your home.

There will be plenty of information, including a panel discussion, "Healthcare in 2013," with SVH's Chief Medical Officer Robert Schlager and SVH President/CEO Victoria Alexander-Lane. This session will focus on preventative healthcare benefits, anticipated changes in healthcare related to the Affordable Care Act, and ways to make decisions about health care choices.

You can also enjoy cooking demonstrations, "Taste of the Market" physical activities for all ages, bone density reading, and information about various services offered at the hospital and throughout the community. Activities for children include face-painting and a teddy bear clinic.

For more information, contact Laurie Alexander in the SVH Community Health/Education department at 487-3890, extension 2731 or check the website. Come out, get healthy, and have fun on Saturday between 11am and 3pm with Q-106.5!
