A Gardiner man was found dead inside a storage container on the Rockland town pier.

The body of Adam Purington, 37, was found Saturday morning. Police believe the commercial fisherman was using the container as a place to sleep. He worked loading and unloading lobsters for Frank Thompson of Vinalhaven, who delivers lobsters to Rockland.

The container where he was found is privately owned and is used to store bait and a forklift.

Centralmaine.com reports, while the State Medical Examiner hasn't determined a cause of death, Rockland Police say he may have died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Police say it appears that Purington may have tried to heat the container by running the forklift.
