The Coast Guard is searching for a man who failed to return from a clamming trip during the blizzard.

Also involved in the search for Paul Benner is the Knox County Sheriff's Office and the Maine Marine Patrol. Officials say a family member alerted the Department of Public Safety Thursday that Benner had not returned from a clamming trip near Long Cove. They said the 35-year-old left from the Long Cove Boat Ramp at 5:00 in the evening to clam on Clark Island, off Long Cove, and never returned.

A media release from the Coast Guard says Benner was reportedly in a 16-foot skiff that matches the description of an unmanned skiff found near Long Cove last night. A search was conducted overnight and is continuing today, with help from a Coast Guard helicopter. The Knox County Sheriff's office is searching from land, while the Maine Marine Patrol assists in the water.

Officials say the seas in the area are about 3 feet and the water temperature is about 37 degrees.
