Coast Guard crews are searching for possible missing or distressed mariners following a broken distress call received Sunday night.

Someone aboard the vessel 'Whiskey Rose' sent the distress hail at 7:40 Sunday night via VHF-FM channel 16 to Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Northern New England. You can hear, in the video above, three broken transmissions that indicate the vessel was taking on water, but fail to give a location. There has been no additional contact.

Rescue crews from the Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor and the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa are currently searching the waters off the coast of Maine. Both an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry Crew from Cape Cod are assisting.

The Coast Guard asks that anyone with additional information about Whiskey Rose or its crew call the Northern New England command center at (207) 767-0302.
