A crew from the U.S. Coast Guard in Boothbay Harbor encountered a large shark off the coast of Maine on Monday.

The shark was spotted seven-to-nine miles of the coast, according to News Center.

Crew members of the 47-foot Motor Lifeboat could not identify what kind of shark they saw, but its length was estimated at 20 feet.

The crew was returning from a search and rescue case when they encountered the shark, which swam near the boat's bow.

In 2017, a large shark was spotted swimming off a Scarborough beach.

Mainers don't have too much to worry about when it comes to sharks. There has been only one shark attack in Maine in the past decade.
