Nashville's Clare Bowen got engaged on Saturday (Dec. 5) in Nashville, and her proposal story is what country songs are made of.

Bowen's longtime boyfriend, singer-songwriter Brandon Robert Young, popped the question during the star's performance at the Grand Ole Opry at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. In a photo Bowen retweeted from a fan in the audience of the proposal, the actress is shown sitting down on the edge of the famed stage.

According to Sounds Like Nashville, Bowen and Young have frequently shared the stage together for performances and were both in attendance at the CMT Artists of the Year taping.

Last month, Bowen stepped out with a drastic new haircut and shared the story of her life-threatening battle with cancer when she was four years old. The Nashville star says she decided to cut her long locks after she heard a story of a girl who didn’t think she could be a princess because she didn’t have long hair.

“I wanted her, and others like her to know that’s not what makes a princess, or a warrior, or a superhero,” Bowen writes. “It’s not what makes you beautiful either. It’s your insides that count… even if you happen to be missing half of them.”

“If it makes even one person think twice about judging another, then in some small way, the world is better," she adds. “Self-esteem takes a lot longer to grow back than hair."
