Chris Stapleton has selected his next single. “Broken Halos” will be officially going for adds at country radio beginning on July 17.

Written by Stapleton and his former Steeldrivers bandmate Mike Henderson, “Broken Halos” was produced by Stapleton and Dave Cobb. The song, Stapleton shared during the 2017 Country Radio Seminar in February, is “about people who have passed away before their time.”

“I recorded this on the day a friend of mine passed away from pancreatic cancer. He was the same age as me; we played Little League together, stuff like that,” Stapleton said at CRS. “He was 38 years old.”

Fans may also be familiar with “Broken Halos” due to Stapleton’s performance of the song during the Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund telethon in December. The song appears on the country star’s most recent album, From A Room: Volume 1; the record’s tracks were recorded in RCA Studio A in Nashville, and Volume 2 is due out later this year.

Stapleton is spending the summer out on the road, on his All-American Road Show tour. A few recent stops on the trek had to be postponed, from June until later in 2017, due to a hand injury that Stapleton suffered in late May. The Brothers OsborneLucie SilvasBrent CobbAnderson East and Margo Price are all acting as special guests on the tour.
