Once again, this 4th of July, the Bangor Waterfront will play host to the Maine and Montreal-based Rolling Stones' tribute band, the Stone Doctors. The Chords for Cure XIV concert will help pay for the fireworks, and will raise money for children with cancer.

It's a great way to watch the fireworks - listening to the amazing music of the Rolling Stones, helping raise money for sick kids, and watching what one member of the group described as the biggest fireworks display in Maine.

Ian Dickey is the founder of Chords for Cure, and is also an Orthopedic Oncologist Surgeon. He said, originally, the band was meant to be populated by doctors, like himself. But now it includes two attorneys, an anesthesiologist tech, an antique refinisher, a software programmer engineer, a civil engineer, and an assistant manager of a Canadian town. They get together a few times a year, to perform charity events in Maine and in Montreal, where Dickey did his residents' training.

He's also on the Bangor 4th of July committee, so the idea to do a benefit concert on that holiday just seemed to make sense. Admission to the Bangor Waterfront event is free, but there will be a bucket brigade running around, collecting donations. Half that money will help to pay for the fireworks display. The other half is being split this year, with half of it going to the Pediatric Oncology Unit at the Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer, and the other half will build two rooms for the brand new neonatal ICU that's currently being built at EMMC, and is scheduled to open next year.

Dickey says the folks in the group don't look like the Rolling Stones, and they're not interested in jumping around on stage and trying to look like Jagger. Instead, they're concerned about the integrity of the music. So much so, in fact, that members of the band have Keith's amp, Ronnie's guitar, and Wyman's bass! I think you'll agree, after watching the video, that they're awesome!

The Chords for Cure XIV will be held on the Bangor Waterfront, beginning at 9 p.m. As I said, admission is free but donations will be gratefully accepted. There will also be t-shirts for sale, and the profits from those will be pooled in with the donations. For more information, log onto the Facebook page for Chords for Cure.

In addition, the Stone Doctors will be performing the night before, on July 3rd at the Pourhouse in Bangor.
