Two children whom police say recently watched their mother kill their father have now lost their home to fire.

The 11-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl are the children of Scotty Weyland who was stabbed to death by his estranged wife, Kandee, six weeks ago, according to police. The Acton couple were in the middle of a divorce when Kandee learned that she'd lost custody of their kids. She's now charged with murder after she allegedly stabbed him to death during a confrontation in front of the children.

WGME reports that Sunday afternoon, a fire that had started in a nearby barn spread to the apartment house where the children were staying with their older half-brother. Five families were left homeless in the blaze that firefighters say was accidentally started by another child playing with matches.

Donations for the five families are being taken at the Acton Town Hall or through a GoFundMe page.
