An 8-year-old child from New York was hurt earlier this week when he fell from a zip line at Camp Caribou in Winslow.

Police say the boy lost his grip while he was riding the zip line just after 5:00 Tuesday evening. He struck his head on a metal rowboat during the fall and has been hospitalized in serious condition.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the zip line is used to drop the campers into a pond from a sloping height of about 50 feet. The boy was one of several using it at the time of the accident.

Use of the zip line has been suspended while the State Fire Marshall's office investigates.
