Check Out the Habitat for Humanity House [VIDEO]
It was not the ideal weather for a Habitat build, but we made it work today and had a lot of fun doing it! Check out the video I made of a walk-through, and see what a beautiful job Habitat for Humanity does on these houses!
Saturday was Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor's Women Build and I joined in as the 'VIP Volunteer.' Basically that meant that I had to say a few words before we got started. I talked about what I love about Habitat which is, as they say, that it's a hand up not a hand out. Habitat families are not 'given' these houses. They pay a mortgage. And they put in sweat equity, meaning that they work right along with the volunteers as the house is built or, in the case of this house, rehabbed.
When I got up this morning and the rain started pouring down, I dreaded the idea of standing in the rain, working on the rehab of a Habitat house in Bangor.working outside, getting soaked to the bone. But, as it turned out, we painted shutters in the cellar until the rain backed off, and then went out to attack some old fence posts in the mud. Fun day and so rewarding!
And perhaps the best part was that I got to meet some amazing women. Thanks to everyone who came out today!
