Folks are invited to run, walk, bike, or even ride their motorcycles in this year's Champion the Cure Challenge, that raises money for Brewer's Lafayette Family Cancer Center.

Each year, Eastern Maine Healthcare hosts a huge event that encourages folks to get outside and be active, and raises money to support the cancer center. Participants can choose from a 1K, 5K, or 10K walk/run; a 25, 50, 75, or 100 mile bicycle ride; or a 50-mile motorcycle ride! And you can do more than one, so if you want to walk the 5K, and also ride your motorcycle, you can!

100% of the money raised goes to support local cancer research, or as Todd Hoffert of EMHS told me, "What's raised here STAYS here!" Todd is part of the EMHS team that's captained by Marcy Black, also of EMHS. Marcy's been very busy and has recruited at least one person from every single department of Eastern Maine Healthcare!

Folks can get signed up online, either as part of a team, or as an individual who will be assigned to a team. In addition, there's a 'virtual participant' option for folks who aren't available to travel to Brewer on that date, where folks can conduct their own challenge where they live. Or, if folks don't want to or can't take part, they can make a one-time donation to the cause!

The Champion the Cure Challenge is being held on August 20th, starting at the Lafayette Family Cancer Center, on Dirigo Drive in Brewer. For more information, log onto the event's website and Facebook page. Do it today!
