Shelters Open in Wake of Ice Storm [Updated 6:25pm ]

The skies have cleared for the most part today leaving only the cleanup following a two-day ice storm that left some parts of Maine covered in an inch of ice.

As Mainers go about last minute preparations for Christmas, thousands have been plunged into darkness as the state's utility companies announce this morning as many as 100,000 customers were in the dark as of 5AM.

Hazardous Weather Prompts Hancock County Sheriff to Declare Hazardous Conditions

The ice storm that started pummeling the state Saturday night lingers on and power company crews are working round the clock to restore power to the thousands of customers in the dark currently.

The hardest hit areas have been Hancock and Washington Counties but now freezing rain has increased the ice buildup in other counties as well
