Bangor's City Manager Catherine M. Conlow announced today the appointment of Mark J. Hathaway of Bangor, ME., as Chief of the Bangor Police Department, subject to the confirmation of the Bangor City Council at its regular meeting on May 13th. Chief Hathaway was selected from a field of thirty eight applicants, four of whom recently interviewed for the position.

At the time Maine Forest Rangers were not permitted to use firearms as part of their enforcement responsibilities.They came out of the ambush with six bullet holes in Bunker's cruiser and a bullet in the Ranger’s hip.

As we all sit glued to our televisions and radios, waiting for news on the manhunt in Boston, a new term is being discussed. People are being asked to "shelter in place," or stay in their homes until police sound the "all clear." Obviously, our world is changing as terrorism has come to our home soil, and we need to make sure we're prepared for what comes next.
