Dexter Hit Hard with Flood Damage [UPDATE]

Town officials this morning have confirmed that four streets have been shut down as a result of the flooding. Those streets are St. Francis Street, Lincoln Street, Water Street and Liberty Street. Residents of those areas are being evacuated from their homes.

The town of Dexter is dealing with a lot of water, raised culverts, and a gaping hole in the ground after heavy rains caused flooding overnight. One entrance to the municipal parking lot is gone and many downtown businesses are closed.

National Grant Leads to Development of COA’s Sustainable Farming Model

The Peggy Rockefeller Farm will soon become a working lab of sorts for students attending the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, and for the community as well.

COA just received a 200-thousand dollar grant from the Arthur Vining Davis foundation for the purposes of creating an experiential learning environment. Physics and Engineering lecturer at COA, Anna Demeo says the grant will allow students to actively participate in the design and development of sustainable solutions.

The Department of Marine Resources has reached an agreement with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission that sets the elver eel catch limit this year to 11-thousand 749 total pounds.
