The students, who were award-winning essay writers from Maine middle and high schools, all expressed gratitude and an awareness of the sacrifice of Maine veterans.

This Friday, the Bangor Symphony Orchestra's Juniper String Quartet will perform at Acadia Hospital in Bangor as part of a new wellness program.

The musical performances will happen on a monthly basis as a way to "provide an opportunity for reflection, inspiration, and education for child and adolescent; and adult patient groups," according to hospital officials.

Washington County Teen Charged With Terrorizing

A verbal threat against a high school gets a young man in trouble with the law in Washington County.

Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith said in a press release the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a verbal threat towards Narraguagus High School located in Harrington Tuesday night.

Drug Use and Abuse in Maine Takes Lives and Demands Resources

"Last year, over 800 babies were born in this state, drug addicted. If that isn't a damned scary figure, then I don't know what is," states Maine's Commissioner of Public Safety, John Morris.

Morris goes on to explain that a "reasonable percentage" of those babies were addicted to Methadone.

Commissioner Morris says he's working with Governor Paul LePage to produce a Governor's bill for the legislature's consideration in January.  The recommendations will address a variety of negative impacts the state is experiencing, brought on by the significant drug use and abuse in Maine.

Young Man Faces Arson Charges after Fire at NMCC

 

The fire happened in the early morning hours Saturday at an apartment in Penobscot Hall on the campus of Northern Maine Community College.

The fire started in a bedroom but was quickly put out by the sprinkler system. No one was hurt, but that apartment, and others, sustained water damage.
