Carrie Underwood’s ‘Two Black Cadillacs’ Video Inspired by Stephen King

Avid readers of Stephen King’s thriller novels may find the plot twist of Carrie Underwood‘s ‘Two Black Cadillacs’ strikingly familiar. The country music superstar used the famous novelist’s classic ‘Christine’ as muse for her eery new video, which is being praised as her most visually stunning video to date.

“I really don’t know why I’ve always loved horror movies,” Underwood says of her video inspiration. “But I know why I’ve always loved Stephen King. My mom was such a huge fan. I guarantee you she’s read everything he’s ever written. I would borrow her books and read her books. This is great reading material for, like, you know, a grade-schooler, right?”

‘Christine’ was released in 1983, with a film adaptation filmed and released later that year. The story depicts an automobile possessed by supernatural forces, much like the vintage black Cadillac featured in Underwood’s new clip. Her video shows the singer driving the vehicle throughout much of the clip, but Underwood is not behind the wheel as it runs down her two-timing lover in a dark alley.

‘Two Black Cadillacs’ is the third release from Underwood’s ‘Blown Away’ album, which has sold more than a million copies since its release last May. The track is currently No. 11 in country radio airplay, and is Top 10 and climbing on the country digital charts with 240,000 single downloads to date.

A performance of the dark track from Underwood on the upcoming Grammy Awards seems likely. It was announced earlier this month that she is among the short list of country performers expected to take the big stage on Feb. 10. The telecast will be broadcasted live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8PM ET on CBS.
