See Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp in New ‘The Sound of Music’ Poster
Fans can finally catch a look at country songstress Carrie Underwood as the iconic Maria von Trapp, as the first piece of promotional artwork for 'The Sound of Music' has been revealed. Plus, more cast names have been announced for the highly-anticipated live production.
Underwood has said that she will put her own spin on the 1959 Broadway musical and she does that, even in the poster for the special. Although she's wearing a dirndl, with her blonde locks plaited around her head, while singing in the hills, the 'See You Again' singer looks very much like herself playing the part of von Trapp -- and not like a spitting image of Julie Andrews.
In the poster, which Underwood also tweeted, NBC enthuses, "The beloved family classic comes alive again!" Fans of the movie and country music are really looking forward to seeing the television version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
NBC also announced that Broadway veterans Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti, and Christian Borle have all signed on to the production. McDonald will play Mother Abbess, Benanti will act as Elsa Schrader, the Captain’s former fiancée, and Borle will portray Max Detweiler.
The cast, which also includes previously announced Stephen Moyer as Captain Georg von Trapp, sounds like an all-star team. And it makes us even more excited to see this must-see musical; maybe it will even become one of our favorite things! 'The Sound of Music' will air live Dec. 5 at 8PM ET on NBC.
