Carrie Underwood's 'The Sound of Music Live!' triumphed in the ratings when it aired on NBC on Thursday, Dec. 5.

The three-hour production, which based on the beloved, original musical, pulled in a whopping 18.5 million viewers. It was a huge hit with audiences watching at home.

The event, starring Underwood in the role of Maria, won its primetime slot across all hours of broadcast.

But wait, there's even more good news.

The production earned the highest, 18-49 non-sports Thursday ratings average since the 2009 series finale of 'ER,' and also earned NBC its best non-sports Thursday rating in total viewers since the 'Frasier' season finale in 2004.

'The Sound of Music Live!' not only ranked No. 1 primetime in all 56 Nielsen-metered markets, but also became the first show since May of 2012 to surpass 'The Big Bang Theory' in P2+ ratings.

That's a lot of TV jargon. Translation? 'The Sound of Music Live!' was a major hit and was watched by tons of people.

Congrats to Carrie Underwood, the cast and everyone involved for turning in such an entertaining evening! The singer said she felt proud and blessed to be a part of such a wonderful event, and her fans and beyond responded by tuning it.
