The National Park Service has begun a "pilot program" where one can now buy Acadia National Park passes online!

“Today, many of Acadia’s visitors conduct business on their smartphones, tablets, and laptops,” said Superintendent Kevin Schneider in a recent press release. “Your Pass Now" modernizes the sale of entrance passes and provides a convenient alternative to purchasing the entrance pass in person.”

The cost of a annual park pass to Acadia is still $50, $25 for a private vehicle for a week, $20 per week for a motorcycle and $12 per week for someone on foot or bike.

When you purchase a Park Pass online, your electronic pass can either be printed or reside on a mobile device.  Use it when you want!  When entering the park an employee of the National Park Service will validate the electronic code.

Acadia National Park, which is celebrating it's 100th anniversary this year, is the first park to participate in the pilot program. In the months to follow, , Colorado National Monument (Colorado), Theodore Roosevelt National Park (North Dakota), Everglades National Park (Florida), and San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park (California) will all begin to issue park passes online.
