Rep. Bruce Poliquin will talk about addiction prevention and treatment during a town hall-style meeting Tuesday night at Eastern Maine Community College.

It will provide attendees with practical prevention and early interventions tips, an overview of the different types of substance abuse disorder treatment programs and an overview of how drugs impact the brain.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department will provide a prescription take-back, allowing attendees to safely dispose of unused prescription drugs.

The event is open to the public and will take place from 6-8 p.m. in Maine Hall. Space will be limited to the first 200 people.

There were 272 drug overdose deaths in Maine last year, compared to 208 the year before, according to the Maine Attorney General's Office.
