A Brewer woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after police responded to reports that she intentionally struck a pedestrian with her vehicle at the intersection of Hammond and Franklin Streets in Bangor Sunday night.

Witnesses reported that a brief verbal altercation occurred prior to the pedestrian being struck by the vehicle, the Bangor Police Department said in a news release on Monday. Witnesses also reported that the pedestrian was standing in a crosswalk when the accident occurred, and the suspect vehicle left the scene immediately following the incident.

The 37-year-old victim, whose name was not released, told police he was playing Pokemon GO with a group of friends just prior to being struck by the vehicle. The man was treated at the scene and released without transport to the hospital, at his own request.

Approximately 30 minutes later, the suspect vehicle and the female driver were located by the Brewer Police Department. The woman has been identified as Jeannie Chapman, 36, the release said.

Chapman was transported to the Penobscot County Jail and charged with aggravated assault, a class B crime.
