Wilson Street in Brewer will begin to undergo another facelift beginning this Monday.  The work will continue into the fall of next year.

Frank Higgins, City Engineer for the city of Brewer, says that this will be the final phase of Wilson Street construction, a project that has stretched over a ten year period.  The first phase began back when Brewer's Wal-Mart and the Eastern Maine Healthcare System buildings were constructed.

Three tenths of a mile of Wilson Street, beginning where Wal-Greens is located and stretching east just past the Greenpoint Road will be widened, and another fifth lane will be added.  The fifth lane, or more commonly known as a "left turn lane", will be located in the center of the road.

Work that begins on Monday and throughout the fall and early winter will mainly consist of relocating telephone poles and underground water and gas lines.

The Maine Department of Transportation will administer the $900,000 project, the work will be done by Maine Earth of Hermon.

People traveling through Brewer on Wilson Street during the construction can expect delays.  I-395 or Dirigo Drive can always be used as a  bypass.
