Brewer High School Principal Hires An Attorney

An attorney for Brewer High School's Principal says no student issues are to blame for the fact that her client hasn't been on the job since last week.

Rumors have been plentiful since late last week when parents and students noticed that Principal David Wall wasn't at the school. Superintendent of Schools Cheri Towle told us this week that she can only say that he's on leave. Other than that, she cannot legally comment on personnel issues.

According to the BDN, Wall has hired the firm of Skelton Taintor & Abbott, out of Auburn and says all questions must go through them. Attorney Rebecca Webber told the paper yesterday that the reason for her client's leave from the school is a personality issue between Wall and Towle. She said no First Amendment or student rights are involved in the dispute.

Wall has not been fired because, in order to do that, there would have to be a hearing. Towle says if and when a hearing date is set, the media will be notified. City Manager Steve Bost has urged the superintendent to move forward with this and let parents know what's going on, because people are starting to ask questions. Even the Brewer Police Department has received calls, asking whether Wall is being investigated.
