The Purple Iris Foundation will be joined by Lowes on Sunday, June 14th, to plant a beautiful purple iris bed, in recognition of pancreatic cancer. Area residents are invited to stop by, help out with the project, and show your support for cancer awareness!

I encourage you to stop by and help, and meet the foundation's founder, Chris Parrish. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer in 2008, a point from which many patients never recover. But it's 2015 and she's still here, paying it forward through the Purple Iris Foundation and spreading the awareness of this terrible disease.

I've met Chris and she's a beautiful woman with a big smile and a ton of energy. She loves flowers, summer, and life. That love of flowers and the realization that, with her diagnosis and the possibility that she might not see another spring, from which the Purple Iris Foundation was born. The group plants flower beds wherever they're asked to do it. You'll find them all over, including around the Brewer Public Library.  If you're interested in having a Purple Iris Foundation bed at your business, contact them through their website.

On Sunday, Chris and other members of the Purple Iris Foundation will be at the Brewer Auditorium at 11 a.m., along with representatives from Lowe's, to build a raised bed and plant some purple iris bulbs. The hope is that they will raise awareness, with that raised bed, of the Foundation and its message, and to promote volunteerism. Stop by if you want to help, or if you just want to see what they do!
