Breaking News – Police Reveal Identities of 3 Men Accused of Home Invasion + Robbery

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office revealed at a press conference today the identities of the three men accused of robberies and a home invasion in Glenburn and Orrington. The men were arrested on Wednesday and were expected to make their first court appearances today.

Penobscot County Sheriff Glenn Ross told us Chester Birmingham of Patten, Benjamin Sprague - a transient from Bangor, and Donald Getchell of Greenbush have all been arrested for Class A Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Crimes. They are accused of committing an armed robbery in Glenburn, armed home invasion and robbery in Orrington, and an attempted armed robbery at Bob's Kozy Korner store in Orrington. In the Orrington home invasion, the men allegedly held a woman at knifepoint while they stole from her.

"This case was a result of many different factors. It was a result of significant and immediate police response into the area," Ross told us. "We had assistance from a Bangor police Department canine, and the Orrington Deputy Sheriffs on duty in that town. We had citizen involvement at the attempted robbery at Bob's Kozy Korner and they were good witnesses to the event."

Ross said he has to thank the investigators and officers of the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department, the State Police, and the State Police crime lab for their speed and dedication to solving the case. We asked Sheriff Ross if it's possible the three may be involved with other robberies and home invasions in the state.

"There are a number of unsolved home invasions and robberies within the state of Maine. We are sharing this information with other police jurisdictions and our detectives will work to get those answers," Ross said. "It would be early to suggest that they may or may not be related but those cases are being actively investigated throughout Penobscot County."

The three men were scheduled to make their first court appearance today. Ross says Chester Birmingham was on federal probation, so there may be further action in his case.
