There was an extended lull between Brett Eldredge and Brantley Gilbert‘s sets on Sunday night (June 22) at Country Jam Colorado, but as soon as fans heard the familiar guitar riff that begins ‘Kick It in the Sticks,’ any momentum lost was soon found. The audience rushed the stage like ants to sugar, filling the valley with the words to every song the singer played.

Gilbert closed a four-day festival that also included Eric Church, Lady Antebellum and Jake Owen as headliners. Over two dozen acts took the Grand Junction, Colo. stage over the weekend, finishing with sets from Eldredge, LoCash Cowboys, Gord Bamford and Charlie Jenkins before Gilbert put a cherry — albeit a rough-around-the-edges cherry — on top.

Much like Church the night before, thick guitar riffs filled the dusty Country Jam air. Many of the planned set pieces had to be rested due to wind, but a little dirt didn’t deter fans or the Georgia native. ‘Bottoms Up,’ ‘Small Town Throwdown’ and ‘Country Must Be Country Wide’ were a few well-known tracks that riled the crowd. First-timers may not have been familiar with some of the deep cuts, but tracks like the unrecorded ‘Read Me My Rights’ could have been the show’s highlights.

Earlier at Country Jam, Eldredge proved his star power with an hour-long set that included ‘Beat of the Music’ and ‘Don’t Ya,’ plus the fan-favorite ‘One Mississippi.’ He told Taste of Country earlier in the day that his new single from ‘Bring You Back’ wasn’t going to be announced for another month, but this tender ballad received a warm response from his adoring audience.

The LoCash Cowboys are as dependable as any live act in country music, and their high-energy set Sunday didn’t disappoint. They played their hits, plus one new song. The two men say another artist may record and release ‘I Love This Night,’ but fans are hoping they keep it as their next single.

Canadian Bamford and local star Charlie Jenkins opened the day. The 101st Army Band took the stage first, setting the tone for a brilliant final day of music and fun at 2014 Country Jam Colorado.
