A Bradford man was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-495 in Lowell, Massachusetts early Saturday morning.

Police say Lawrence Perham, 39, was struck by a pickup truck as he was trying to retrieve his dead dog from the roadway, according to a report from WGME.

Perham parked his vehicle in the breakdown lane and got out of the vehicle to retrieve the dog's body. Police did not say what happened to the animal.

The operator of the pickup, a 61-year-old man from Clemsford, Massachusetts, suffered minor injuries.

No charges have been filed.

Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the accident.
