A Maine man was struck and killed on a Massachusetts highway while trying to get his dog back in his car.

WMTW-TV reports the 39-year-old man was traveling with his girlfriend and child Christmas Eve when the dog got loose on Route 495 In Lowell, Massachusetts. He was apparently trying to corral the dog when he was struck by a pickup and killed. His car was found in the breakdown lane. Police have not released the victim's name, pending notification of family.

A 61-year-old Chelmsford man, who was driving the pickup, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
