In a move that will certainly surprise some country music fans, superstar Brad Paisley will appear on a track on an upcoming album from rapper LL Cool J. The unusual pair have actually exchanged collaborations, working together on one track for each of their forthcoming records.

Paisley appears on a track called ‘Live For You’ on the rapper’s ‘Authentic’ album, which is slated to drop on April 30. But it is their collaboration on Paisley’s album, ‘Wheelhouse,’ that is likely to draw the most attention.

“We did one for his album, which is called ‘Accidental Racist,’ which I think is very thought provoking and very interesting,” LL Cool J tells (quote via Country Music Tattle Tale). “It’s going to get a lot of attention … and I’ll leave it at that ’cause I wanna let him talk about it. I don’t wanna spoil his thing on his album but we did something that was really cool.”

He adds, “The song we did on my record, it’s not like I’m trying to do a gimmicky thing. It’s not like, ‘Oh the country meets the rapper and it’s a hoedown!’ It’s none of that. He’s a great singer. I let him sing on something that I felt he would sound cool on, and play the guitar as well because musicianship is a huge part of this record. I wanted great musicians on my album. Brad was a lot of fun in the studio. He’s playing the guitar.”

LL Cool J’s record also features guest appearances by Eddie Van Halen and Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker. Not to be outdone, Paisley enlisted not only the rapper, but guest stars Dierks Bentley, Hunter Hayes and Charlie Daniels — as well as Eric Idle from Monty Python.

“We decided not to respect boundaries,” Paisley said on ‘Good Morning America’ (quote via the Tennessean). “We thought, anything that sort of helps tell the story and I guess be entertaining, we felt like it was time to incorporate it, whatever it may be. We really had fun.”

Paisley admits that on ‘Accidental Racist’ he and LL Cool J “tackle a delicate subject,” adding that he has nothing but respect for his collaborator. “He’s one of my good friends these days,” he states. “We’ve just gotten to know each other really well, and I have so much respect for him as a human being.”
