Bangor Police confirm a body was pulled from the Penobscot River in Hampden Friday afternoon after someone noticed it near the Bangor Waterfront.

Officials were alerted when someone spotted the man's body in the river near the Sea Dog. It was taken ashore near the Veteran's Remembrance Bridge in Hampden at around 6:00 and taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to confirm the man's identity. On scene were members of Bangor Fire and Police, along with Maine Wardens, and Orono Police.

The Wardens and Orono PD were interested in the discovery because of Maine Maritime Academy student David Breunig, who is believed to have gone in the river on February 26th. Breunig had attended a party in Orono that evening and was last seen headed toward a train trestle that crosses the river. Police suspect he fell from the bridge.

WABI-TV reports that authorities say they know who the man is whose body was pulled from the river Friday, but are waiting for confirmation from the Medical Examiner and until family can be notified before releasing the name. We'll update this story as more details become available.
