The search for a missing Ellsworth man may have ended Tuesday night when a body was recovered from the water. Matthew LaForest was last seen next to the water near the Sullivan Bridge in Hancock

Police were first alerted to the 28-year-old's disappearance after a friend reported him missing. He was last seen during the morning of June 18th. Police discovered his vehicle at a scenic turnout near the bridge. Witnesses told investigators that LaForest was seen walking back and forth between his car and the shore, but no one actually saw him go into the water.

The body was recovered by the Marine Patrol Tuesday evening in Taunton Bay. An autopsy is planned with the State Medical Examiner to determine cause of death and confirm that is is Matthew LaForest.
