Body Found In Rockport

Officials say a decomposed body has been found in a wooded area in Rockport.

According to the Penbay Pilot, a hunter walking through the woods found the body approximately 500 yards in the woods off Mt. Pleasant Road in Rockport late Wednesday afternoon. At this point, it's being investigated as an unattended death.

Rockport Police are investigating, with help from Camden Police, the Maine Warden Service, the Maine State Police Criminal Investigation Division, and the Rockport Fire Department. The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine cause of death and make a positive ID. Identification was found with the body, but officials are waiting for confirmation and notification of family before releasing the person's name.
