Truth. Comedian Bill Engvall once tucked a dollar bill into my jeans for opening my shirt. On stage! Well...I opened my shirt on stage. Bill gave me my tip as I was leaving the stage!

Okay, so here's what really happened. He DID give me the dollar. And I DID open my shirt. But I was wearing a t-shirt underneath the denim I opened. How did this chain of events occur? I blame it on a member of the Houlton Fair board!

JR Mitchell and I hosted a pair of Bill Engvall Shows in Houlton a few years ago. While we were on stage for the first show, someone yelled "Take off your shirt!" I assumed they were talking to me, although maybe they meant JR?

Anyway, I was joking around with this member of the fair board and asked him what kind of people they have up there, that would ask me to take off my shirt! Of course, when JR and I got up to introduce Bill a second time, the fair director walked past and yelled "Take off yer shirt!" The audience joined in and started hooting and hollering, so I opened my denim to reveal my t-shirt and we all laughed.

Imagine how surprised I was when, as I was leaving the stage, Bill Engvall walked up to me and tucked a dollar bill into the pocket of my jeans! The crowd erupted into cheers and applause, and that started one of the funniest evenings of comedy I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of.

Don't miss Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy at the Darling's Waterfront Pavilion on Saturday night. Yes, I'll be there and no, I won't be opening my shirt! Listen to JR's interview with Bill earlier this week. And just to give you a sample of his hilarious every-man-brand of humor, here's Bill talking about....the Dorkfish!
